This oil is not safe for children.

Add a maximum of 5 drops (0.25 mL) to 5 mL of carrier oil (or 5.4%) for topical applications.

Peppermint supports the 4th and 6th chakras.

 

Tisserand & Young have shown that Peppermint oil is choleretic, neurotoxic in high doses, and has a low risk of mucous membrane irritation.  Peppermint is contraindicated through all routes with cardiac fibrillation, G6PD deficiency, and should not be applied on or near the face of infants or children.  Oral doses are contraindicated with cholestasis and cautioned with GERD. [1]

Below are some of the known drug interactions for Peppermint.  Check with your healthcare provider before using Peppermint essential oil if you are currently taking prescription medication.

Peppermint oil can interact with drugs metabolized by liver enzyme CYP3A4.

Severe interaction:

  • Weak CYP3A4 Inhibitors such as Lomitapide (>40mg)

Serious interaction:

  • Weak CYP3A4 inhibitors such as Lonafarnib, Eliglustat, or Lomitapide (>30mg or <=40mg)

Moderate interaction:

  • Weak CYP3A4 inhibitors such as Ubrogepant, Lemborexant, or Lomitapide (<=30mg)

Other interactions (may be mild to severe, more research needed):

  • Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors such as Donezepil
  • Adrenaline B-receptor antagonists such as Carvedilol or Propranolol
  • Opioid analgesics such as Alfentanil, Codeine, Fentanyl, or Methadone
  • Angiotensin II-receptor antagonists such as Losartan
  • Antiarrhythmic drugs such as Amiodarone (class III), Lidocaine (class Ib), or Quinidine (class Ia)
  • Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline, Clomipramine, or Imipramine
  • Other antidepressants such as Mirtazapine
  • Antidiabetic drugs such as Glibenclamide
  • Antifungal drugs such as Itraconazole or Ketoconazole
  • Antipsychotic drugs such as Haloperidol or Pimozide
  • Benzodiazepines such as Diazepam, Midazolam, or Triazolam
  • Calcium channel blockers such as Diltiazem, Felodipine, Nicardipine, Nifedipine, Nitrendipine, or Verapamil
  • Chemotherapeutic drugs such as Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicin, Vinblastine, or Vincristine
  • Dopamine receptor antagonists such as Domperidone
  • Estrogen receptor agonists such as Estradiol or Ethinyl estradiol
  • Estrogen receptor antagonists such as Tamoxifen
  • Glucocorticoids such as Budenoside, Dexamethasone, Hydrocortisone, or Prednisolone
  • Histamine H1-receptor antagonists such as Astemizole, Chlorpheniramine, or Terfenadine
  • HMG Co-A reductase inhibitors such as Atorvastatin, Lovastatin or Simvastatin
  • Hypnotic drugs such as Zaleplon or Zopiclone
  • Immunosuppressants such as Cyclosporine or Tacrolimus
  • Nervous system stimulants such as Caffeine or Cocaine
  • Phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as Cilostazol or Sildenafil
  • Reverse-transcriptase inhibitors such as Nevirapine
  • Serotonin receptor agonists such as Buspirone (5-HT1A) or Cisapride (5-HT4)
  • Serotonin 5-HT3-receptor antagonists such as Ondansetron
  • Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Citalopram or Sertraline

We do not recommend topical use in concentrations above 5.4%

This oil is not safe for children.

Avoid when pregnant or breastfeeding.
